Visiting takes about 1-1.5 hours depending on how much your kids want to linger on the trails and at each enclosure. On weekends and at peak periods, center staff also host creative and educational activities along the trail that may take more time. Other particular areas of note in the trails are the McAlpine Creek and Campbell Creek Greenway (located Southeast of the city) as well as the beautiful Town of Matthews segment. I highly recommend finding a greenway close to wherever you live or are staying.

Every weekend, the greenways are filled with families walking, jogging, and biking. You might often see a timed race or event happening on a portion of the greenway for one of the many races throughout our city. Top on my personal list of places to visit is the NASCAR Hall of Fame in uptown Charlotte. The Charlotte area, and in particular, Concord, North Carolina, is home to NASCAR royalty such as Jeff Gordon, Kyle Petty, and Denny Hamlin. In fact, more than 75% of the NASCAR race teams and employees live nearby.

We also have a podcast episode on the topic of things to do with kids in Raleigh, which you can find it at the bottom of the post. They can also interact with other insects, turtles, snakes, and more. From learning about science to playing miniature golf to seeing a football game, the kid-friendly activities in the city aren’t only fun for children but they can be great for the whole family. The city has great museums for kids, amazing events, and much more.

Carolinas Aviation Museum

You can find a collection of 25 Mustangs at the museum, that includes classics, Mustangs for racing, and unique versions. It is also possible to do a behind-the-scenes tour of 30 minutes, during which you can learn about what happens behind the scenes of SEA LIFE Charlotte. Besides that, because of the store’s location at Southpark Mall, you can combine going to the store with going to other stores at the mall. Sometimes there are also events that take place at the store.

We also got to see a giraffe enclosure (one of the few that you cannot feed and that do not roam freely). If the kids still have energy to get out, I recommend simply walking around the mall and stopping at the numerous open play spaces until you get them tuckered out. In addition to the LEGO store, another must-visit is the Bass Pro Shop that also includes amazingly large fish prominently featured throughout the store and free Santa visits during the holidays.

Holiday events with themes focused on specific holidays like Halloween, Christmas, Easter, 4th of July, etc. Auditions and casting calls for productions and performances in need of kids under 18; and tryouts for all kinds of kids teams. Family friendly events and programs taking place at area libraries.

UNCC Football Game

If you visit during the week there are fewer people and you and your children can enjoy exploring various walking trails and paths, ride bikes and have fun at the two playgrounds. Older kids will enjoy the Play 60 obstacle and training course. You can bring along a picnic or barbecue – there are several BBQ shelters and clean restrooms. Charlotte Motor Speedway is a popular attraction for motor racing enthusiasts of all ages, including children. If you are planning to attend one of the NASCAR events at the Speedway you can make the whole experience even more exciting for the children by bringing along an RV and camping right at the track. The Speedway offers two different tours which will give you an insider’s view of the pits, winners circle, the track and much more (reduced prices for children 13 and under).

However, the waterpark isn’t the only cool kid-friendly thing to do here. You can learn about his teachings, his accomplishments, and see his original home with house tours. There is a large gravel parking lot, then a big area where families can sit, enjoy lunch, and watch the planes. You can have hours of endless fun exploring the nature museum. There are plenty of hands-on kid activities in Charlotte NC, and IMAX experiences that the whole family can be involved in. There is something for everyone of any age at this outdoor adventure park.

Whether it’s hiking, camping, or simply enjoying the great outdoors, Sarah knows everything you need to make the most of your time in North Carolina. At the NASCAR Hall of Fame, family members of all ages can relive some of racing’s greatest moments and explore more than 50 interactive exhibits. By offering adapted hearing devices, courtesy wheelchairs and accessible racing simulators, the Hall of Fame aims to provide a full experience for all guests. Plan a relaxing day at Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden taking in the 380 acres of themed gardens, sparkling fountains and the striking Orchid Conservatory.

You can find little pavilions inside that are nice for resting. Inside the preserve are over 10 miles of hiking trails, a huge enclosed dog area, disc-golf courses, and a lake where kids can discover turtles, fish, birds, and lots of other wildlife. I live in North Carolina and I know all the best places to spend time as a family. Charlotte is the perfect place to be for finding wonderful kid-friendly activities.
